Laurel Butterfield joined Edelman in May 2011 and has 15 years of communications expertise spanning the health industry, including physical roles in the US, EMEA and APAC.
As Global Strategy and Operations lead for Edelman Health, she helps to define and execute industry-leading communications standards alongside the Global Health Chair. She also leads the development of the Edelman Trust Barometer for the Healthcare industry.
In her role, Laurel connects Edelman Health clients and teams around the world with industry trends, best practices, capabilities and methodologies to advance client services.
This includes supporting the establishment of Edelman’s Multicultural Health task force, which has pooled experts and resources to help clients address the pressing issues of health disparities and systemic racism, an area in which Laurel is personally passionate.
She was also a Daniel J. Edelman Global Fellow, working in Edelman Tokyo from 2013-2015, where she provided cross-network support for global clients and facilitated knowledge sharing from Edelman offices around the world. During this time, Laurel led employee engagement initiatives for AstraZeneca Japan, including an 8-month secondment in the Osaka head office within the client’s internal communications team.
Laurel’s account experience in strategic health communications spans a range of disease areas as well as product and corporate campaigns, including national celebrity initiatives, grassroots programming targeting diverse communities, data publicity and milestones, employee engagement and more.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a major in public relations.
