THE ROLE 

We are looking for an Associate Director/ Director to join the team to lead our Competition, Anti-Trust and Litigation offering.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join an established office and to work with our roster of existing clients. The role also offers the opportunity to create an entire new division of products and services for global, regional and local prospects, tapping into Edelman’s existing roster of clients network resources and expertise. 
 
EXPERIENCE

  • Strong understanding of the global and European competition, anti-trust and litigation environment and the key institutions and players; over 10 years’ experience working in the legal/regulatory/competition policy/communication fields; 
  • A strong understanding of the intricacies of the EU policy environment and how legal issues work across the region, as well as sound understanding of how best to effectively influence key processes; 
  • An ability to work in the area of competition and anti-trust policy but also an appreciation for how litigation processes work and how best to leverage communication techniques to drive better outcomes; 
  • Consultancy experience and an ability to build out a business/offer; and
  • An ability to bring the multiple communication techniques to play on a strategic challenge. 

EXPECTATIONS 

  • The vision and foresight to create a team within the Edelman Brussels office, offering competition, anti-trust and litigation communications support to global, regional and local clients; 
  • Supporting across the wider team as/when required and being a true team player; 
  • Building a network of contacts across the Edelman network and working to drive a community of litigation support across our global footprint with a specific focus on demonstrating your understanding of Brussels and operating within the EU context;

  • Provide hands-on assistance with daily tasks related to communications, advising and executing across several client accounts and teams as required; and

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent level of English (oral and written) is required; 
  • Other European languages would be beneficial (e.g. French or German or others); 
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in journalism, communications, PR, languages, political science, international relations, law or other relevant field; 
  • Good knowledge/understanding of the global policy debate, the European landscape and specific Member State knowledge is expected – specific PR related knowledge is a plus, as is knowledge of communications marketing; 
  • Passionate about communications and policy issues; 
  • Excellent analytical and written skills; 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – a positive approach with a self-learning attitude; 
  • Ability to work under pressure and on multiple assignments; 
  • Ability to work effectively in a varied environment and within small dynamic teams; 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), additional skills are a plus; 
  • Knowledge of digital communication and social media; and

Account Manager – Health & Wellbeing

Edelman Brussels is looking for a talented public affairs professional with minimum of 4-5 years of experience in agency, private sector, not-for-profit organizations and/or in an EU institution, to work across our exciting clients and help us develop new business opportunities. We are looking for someone with interest and experience in health policy, with an account management background, excellent communication and writing skills and an eye for detail. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The precise nature of activities will depend on the priorities and client work during the time of the placement, to be agreed. However, the responsibilities and tasks are likely to include the following:

  • A focus on EU policy, strategy, engagement and communication programmes for clients, including but not limited to health and wellbeing, as well as related specific issues;
  • Serving as the day-to-day contact with clients, identifying and flagging policy challenges and opportunities and providing related strategic advice;
  • Contributing to research and analysis on various policy issues, reporting of relevant developments, drafting briefings, reports, updates and other forms of communication;
  • Supporting the organisation and preparation of materials for meetings, events or other client/stakeholders/media engagement activities;
  • Providing day-to-day support, both agency and client-side, including regular conference calls and clear, concise public affairs briefings for planning roll-outs;
  • Liaising with regional and global Edelman teams and managing the roll-outs of all plans and assets;
  • Campaign and event planning, logistics and management;
  • Day-to-day account management of junior team members;
  • Identifying policy and market trends and pitching new business opportunities;
  • Budget management inclusive of all owned projects.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Native or near-native level of English (oral and written) is required; 
  • University degree in political science, communications, international relations, health and nutrition policy, law or other relevant field; 
  • Very good knowledge of EU decision making processes and its stakeholders, ideally gained from prior experience working in a consultancy, the EU institutions, private sector, not-for-profit organizations and/or other EU-related environment – specific to health & wellbeing is a plus; 
  • Excellent analytical and written skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - a positive approach with a self-learning attitude; 
  • Ability to work under pressure and on multiple assignments;
  • Proactive approach, willingness to take the initiative, and ability to develop and maintain a network of contacts with key stakeholders active in the policy field;
  • Experience in working with the media (strategy, outreach, coordination) and/or a good understanding of the media landscape would be an asset;
